Frequently asked questions
How do I remove VAT from a price?
Divide the gross price by 1 plus the rate. At 20%, divide by 1.2.
Why not just subtract 20%?
VAT is charged on the net price, so 20% of the gross price overstates it.
Are reduced rates supported?
Only standard rates are listed. Reduced and zero rates apply to specific goods and services. Canada shows the 5% federal GST only; provincial sales taxes are extra.
